Guests included Susan Sarandon (mother of the designer's muse, actress Eva Amurri), Carmen Electra, and Denise Richards, plus Rachel Zoe's main man, Brad Goreski, and from across the Hudson river, fellow Bravo-lebrity Caroline Manzo from "The Real Housewives of New Jersey.""The inspiration was, I looked at that '60s American expat girl Remy hair in Paris," Benz told StyleList of his collection. "I think everyone has the fantasy of being picked up by that cute boy on the back of a Vespa and whisked off to Sacré-Coeur. So it's a whole kind of quirky American take on '60s French New Wave. And what's 'today' about the collection is casual sportswear -- there's a lightness to it, a lot of pastel colors, soft and layering textures that feel a little bit more refreshing."Actress Denise Richards, dressed simply in black, gushed: "I love that it's very flirty, girly, very French, adorable. You could wear it anywhere: to a premiere, you could do lunch, anything."Asked about her favorite current trend, the actress said: "Leopard! I love leopard. I've Weaving hair always been a fan. Even when it's not in style, I still wear it. It's fun, it's sexy, it's flirty." (Leopard was not, however, in evidence in the Benz collection.)Carmen Electra looked stunning in one of the designer's sleeveless sequined cocktail dresses. "I'm very excited because this look is new for me," she said. "I love that Chris is so adventurous, with bold colors and different textures." For fall, she said, "I'm excited about coats, and sneakers -- I love sneakers! Everyone always sees me in Louboutins and high heels, and I love those as well, but I think I'm most comfortable in a pair of sneakers. I love to wear black."Innocently, your correspondent asked Miss Electra what was new in her professional life."I have a line of sexy whips coming out."Wait, what?"So if you're a baaad boy, you're in trouuuble," she drawled sexily, which was kind of awkward. (Someone's gaydar is seriously off.)"I design my own whips. They're Hair weaving very special for bachelor and bachelorette parties; they're fun, very playful gifts. It's whips, handcuffs, furry handcuffs, diamond handcuffs..."Gosh. So, what do you look for in a good whip?"It depends on how serious you take it," she said. "They're good if you want to play around and you're not into anything too intense. It's always fun to bring out your inner dominatrix once in a while -- I could go on for days.
